Indiana lawmakers seek possible special session on abortion

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The vast majority of Republican state lawmakers in Indiana have signed a letter asking the governor to recall them in a special session later this year if the U.S. Supreme Court rolls back the limits states can set on abortion.

The letter was sent to Governor Eric Holcomb as lawmakers finalized work ahead of this year’s regular legislative session, which ended early Wednesday.

Anti-abortion lawmakers have decided to delay major action until they see the Supreme Court’s decision on a Mississippi law they hope will overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling.

That ruling is not expected until June.

Holcomb’s spokeswoman says he is “definitely considering” the option of a special legislative session.
