Indiana softball to play Kent State on Wednesday

After scoring 1-2 last weekend in their road series against 24th-place Ohio State, the Indiana softball team will face Kent State University at 1 p.m. On Wednesday for a solo match at Andy Mohr Field.

Wednesday’s game marks Hoosiers ’first solo game of the season, as every other game was part of a weekend series. It is also the team’s first home game of the series from March 5 to 6 against Valparaiso University and Western Illinois University. Indiana is striving to maintain a perfect home record in this match.

Kent State is 7-13 this season and 1-4 in the Mid-American Conference. The Golden Flashes played with one Big Ten opponent earlier this season, scoring 0-4 in a four-game streak against the 21st-ranked Michigan.

New player Savannah Wing has a hit average of 0.310, the highest of all players in Kent State. Wing also has 0.948 on a base plus average choking. Second-year pitcher Jessica LeBeau has the lowest average run earned on the team with a 2.51 ERA.

Indiana leads the all-time series 6-2, but lost its last match 8-5 on February 26, 2006 in Tampa Bay, Florida. Indiana’s last victory over Kent State was in the 3-2 competition on March 9, 2001 in Lexington, Kentucky.
