INDIANA SCHOOL BOARD MOVES FORWARD WITH ENDING CLASSES AT HORACE MANN BUILDING

On Monday night, the Indiana School Board approved the elementary school redevelopment plan that will end Horace Mann Elementary School classes.

The plan, approved by the Indiana School Board by 8-1 votes, will create two pre-K through third grade schools in East Pike and Ben Franklin Schools, and Eisenhower Elementary fourth through fifth grade. Board Chairman Walter Schroth said one of the reasons he voted for the plan was education equality.

Another reason given for this effective plan is to save half a million dollars every year, and it is the most effective for staff use and reducing travel time for traveling workers.

Sue Rieg was the only person to reject the plan, saying those who took the district survey early in the process indicated they preferred the second option, where the three elementary schools would be PreK schools through fifth grade.

Scrhoth was quick to point out that the Horace Mann building would not close immediately. Discussions about what to do with the building will be discussed at the committee level.

In another industry, the board also approved the administrative work of Buchart Horn design contractors and contractors required to implement changes related to the selection of the new design.
