INDIANA GETS BASKETBALL, HOCKEY WINS WHILE HERITAGE RACES CONTINUE
Indiana outscored Mars, 48-26, as Eve Fiala scored 16 points. The Little Indians are 12-3 in the season and 7-1 in 5A Section 2.
Homer-Center dropped Purchase Line last night to secure a place in the Heritage Conference semifinals. Todd Marino has the story.
Cambria Heights took second place in the Heritage Conference East with a 54-33 victory over Marion Center. At 6-3, the Highlanders are in line to finish second behind 9-1 Penns Manor.
In the Heritage West, West Shamokin strengthened his dominance in second place and secured a place in the semifinals with a 70-52 victory over Homer-Center. United and West Shamokin play each other on Monday at United, with the Wolves still a chance to take first place but behind the Lions with two games, each with three to play.
United came out of the conference to take on Conemaugh Township, a WestPac / District 5 Powerhouse that brought a record 11-1 in the game, and the Lions lost, 62-50, on the road. United fell to 14-3 during the year. Jackson Ryer scored 15 for Township and three of his teammates had 14 each. The Indians took control of the game in the first half, jumped to a 20-10 lead in the first quarter and were 31-17 up in the middle. United could never close the gap.
The Lions were led by Johnny Muchesko and Brad Felix, who scored 12 each, and Jacob Boring, who finished with 10.
Indiana’s offense came to life last night as the Indians defeated West Allegheny, 7-1. Sam Barley scored two goals and Gabe Nettleton and Colton Rayko had a goal and two assists each. All but one of Indiana’s goals came with equal strength. Nettleton and Rayko each scored in the first period, and after West Allegheny reduced the lead to one in the second period, Vince Belize scored for Indiana, and Barley scored his first goal, a short score to make it 4-1. Nate Wood, Zach Brody, and Barley then scored in the third period to set the final at 7-1.
Freshman goalkeeper Luke Rowe stopped 24 of 25 shots to get the win in the net.
